Information on the old unsupported utility follows

This utility (wbTerm.exe) provides an easy way to talk to Tech Edge controllers and displays for configuration and diagnostic purposes. Here are some features :

• Automatic COM port recognition and configuration.
• Data interpretation for viewing returned data.
• Enhanced command entry including from a file (.ccf)
• Emulator for display setup and logging tests.

COM Port

The COM Port list box shows all COM ports that are available and not being used by another program. The port list is updated each time the down arrow is pressed. Select the port connected to your WBo2 unit or your display - note: connecting to a display requires the display interface adaptor.

Laptops may not have a serial port (also known as RS232). If you don't have one (it will be a DB9 connector that mates with the WBo2 RS232 cable) then you may need to use a USB to RS232 converter. These converters, when correctly installed, will be shown in the list as an additional COM port.

The status bar (bottom left) shows how many COM ports were found, and if a selected port was opened successfully.

Cmd: Commands, Options, etc.

In the Cmd : box you enter commands. Results are sent back and displayed in the large list area in the bottom half of the screen. You can enlarge the display area by resizing it - you will be prevent from making it smaller than 400 x 300.

The way data is displayed can be controlled - selecting As ASCII works for most commands (selecting Bytes in Hex or one of the Frame modes shows raw binary data in a more readable format).

• The Auto CLS? check box enables the result area to be cleared before each command is issued. The screen can be manually cleared using the CLS button.
• If the Keep Text? check box is enabled, the text of the next command entered will be retained. This can be useful if a number of similar commands are to be entered - the command is executed each time the keyboard Enter key is pressed.
• When the [History]? check box is enabled, commands entered are echoed in the results display area. Note : A Command History is maintained and pressing the keyboard's up and down (cursor) arrows, when the cursor is in the command text area, will scroll through the commands previously issued.
• The . . . from file button is used to open the Command Processor window described below.
• The EMUL button opens the WBo2 Emulator window described below.

The Command processor is used to execute a series of commands from a file.

[EMUL] WBo2 Emulator

The WBo2 emulator is used to simulate the output from a WBo2 controller and is primarily to test different display configurations and for driving logging software.

The value of each frame variable can be altered by either changing the value directly, via a slider, or via drop a down menu selection.

• The top slider varies the quantity currently highlighted in green, or you can chage it by simply typing a new value in. Change the highlight by clicking on another box - for example, click on the User 1 box (third down from the top left) to make that the "green box". Now move the slider and see the hex value (0B80 in the image at right) change. The green User 1 value will also change. In the image the Lambda (Ipx) value is decimal 2944 (= 0x0B80). Note that the maximum allowable value for the slider changes from field to field and in the image the 2328 value (top right) is the maximum value for the Lambda (Ipx) field - this maximum value is shown as hex.
  
  
• The middle slider changes the RPM value. In this case you can also set the RPM by entering a decimal value into the box above the slider. To the right, the Pulses/2-Revs box sets how the RPM Count field (above left of the RPM slider) is converted to a displayed RPM. And lastly, the hex value of the RPM field is shown to the right of the text RPM Count.
  
  
• There are two ways to change the status word. Change it in decimal in the box to the left of the text Status Word and the hex value will be shown to the right (0000 in the image). Alternatively, change one of the values in the 4 drop down menu selections and the four check boxes. A normal status word from a functional wideband controller is 768. (0x0300) and this can be set by selecting the 3 - OK Operational menu item from the second box. Various error conditions can be simulated for the Vs/Ip (Lambda control) PID or the Heater PID. Basic control of the emulator is handled in the central Emulation Control frame. Under that label is the Start/Stop button. The image shows Stop and in this case frames are being produced by the emulator and this action will be stopped when the button is pressed. The Force CRC Error check box does just that, forcing each frame to have an incorrect CRC calculated for it.

The status bar shows the Frame Sequence counter byte filed in decimal (236.) and the Tick word field (76CC) in hex. Other bar status fields change depending on what controls are being adjusted.

To exit the emulator simply close the window (top right X and the currently selected values will be remembered the next time the emulator is started.

Download Latest WBterm (Vers 0.8a)

Here is the latest WBterm installation file. Simply download it to a convenient place and run it :

Download WBtermSetup-08a.exe now (~152 Kbytes).

You will be asked if the installation directory of C:\Program Files\TechEdge\WBterm is acceptable and you have the option of changing that location. The program group Tech Edge will be created (if it doesn't already exist) and the shortcut WB Terminal will be created there.

Note that WBterm creates an initialisation file WBterm.ini in the installation directory and no variables are saved to the registry.
